One Hundred and Some Hoopla!

Image
Today was a day of celebrations. I attended the opening reception of the WVA "From Where I Sit" show at Lakeland University in Plymouth, WI tonight, where Gossamer Gallery made it's official public debut. It was an evening of incredible art and many heartfelt conversations. It's always a joy to have the opportunity to come together with other artists and discuss our process.  I also got to speak with students who attend Lakeland University, where GG was a big hit! I invited students and other artists to apply for shows in the gallery, and discussed the behind the scenes of building the gallery, the sneaky features (like how the staircase to the artist studio folds up to hide in the ceiling for do not disturb work time).  One excellent feature of the gallery tags for the art in this show is a space where we got to put a QR code for our work. The one for Gossamer Gallery takes you right to our Instagram page, since the gallery isn't for sale. Imagine my surprise wh...

There will be a pause on accepting any new artwork for the gallery from September 7th through October 25th. Luckily we have several solo shows lined up already. The Intricacies of Owning a Tiny Gallery

Image
Today was the first trip to gather some art for our first show, The Mixed Up, Messed Up Show. The title came about because I'm still learning how to run a gallery, (albeit a tiny one) and I'm learning as I go. I'm sure as time goes on, the process will become more streamlined, but for now, I've offered to meet up with local artists to pick up their work for shows. The image on this post is our new logo, designed by my wonderfully talented friend, Jodi Brzezinski. Jodi and I chatted about what style of logo I was looking for, I told her that I'm particular about the way the letter "G" looks written out, and I gave her the background information as to how I picked the name for GG. I also explained that the colors of GG are neutral; light and dark grey with white and some hints of navy blue, and that the word "gossamer" means something fine, delicate, or insubstantial. The gallery is dedicated to tiny art, and the idea for me is that GG is the hos...

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to the official blog for The Gossamer Gallery, a tiny art gallery located inside of a dollhouse near Milwaukee, WI. This blog, as well as the dollhouse gallery, email account, and Instagram page are all run by me, Denise, AKA Art of Dash. I'm an elementary school art teacher with a passion for all types of art. The photo above is the mini me that I created specifically for Gossamer Gallery.  I've been a creator my whole life, and somewhere along the way, I started to make tiny art. The tinier, the better. I wanted to challenge myself to see how much I could fit into the smallest size canvas as possible.  The idea of building a dollhouse turned art gallery was influenced by a new friend that I connected with via Instagram, Holly Buchholz. Holly and her husband, Dan, run Tag and TiniER, a dollhouse turned art gallery that their children outgrew from childhood. They hosted me for a solo tiny art show, and one chat filled afternoon later (and with a lot o...
