The Intricacies of Owning a Tiny Gallery
Today was the first trip to gather some art for our first show, The Mixed Up, Messed Up Show. The title came about because I'm still learning how to run a gallery, (albeit a tiny one) and I'm learning as I go. I'm sure as time goes on, the process will become more streamlined, but for now, I've offered to meet up with local artists to pick up their work for shows.
The image on this post is our new logo, designed by my wonderfully talented friend, Jodi Brzezinski. Jodi and I chatted about what style of logo I was looking for, I told her that I'm particular about the way the letter "G" looks written out, and I gave her the background information as to how I picked the name for GG. I also explained that the colors of GG are neutral; light and dark grey with white and some hints of navy blue, and that the word "gossamer" means something fine, delicate, or insubstantial. The gallery is dedicated to tiny art, and the idea for me is that GG is the host for tiny things that are only briefly in the space. I think she knocked it out of the park with her logo design. It's simple, and clean, which is just what I was looking for.
Our next call for art opens today and runs through August 9th, and the theme is National Black Cat Appreciation Day. The show will be posted to our Instagram page, and will run from August 17th through August 31st. In order for your art to be photographed for the show, I'll need it in hand by the end date of August 9th so that I have time to photograph and edit anything before I can post it to our Instagram page for the opening reception on August 17th. Please reach out if you're interested in participating, and keep in mind that it's free to enter, if your work sells I take zero commission, and I'll make arrangements to get your art returned to you after August 19th.
A reminder, artwork must be 8 inches by 8 inches or smaller to fit inside of the gallery (I can accept a piece up to 12 inches wide if it is displayed on its side). Please attach a note with any specific hanging/showing instructions, unless you are giving me the freedom to install your art as I see fit. Since this is a dollhouse, work won't be hung using nails, so it must be freestanding if it's a sculpture/3D, or able to be placed on a small easel, propped up, or stuck to the walls with sticky tack if it's 2D. All artist's work should be labelled with the artist's name, title of piece (if any), price if for sale, and any social media information so I can tag you in our posts.
If you like to have plenty of advanced notice for art calls, we'll be posting a call for art for World Art Day and also National Anime Day, both of which are April 15th. The call for art will begin on February 1st 2025, and end on March 14th, 2025. All art will need to be to me by March 21st, 2025, to be included in the show. The show will run March 28th through April 15th, 2025.
More details and art calls to come.
